The new European Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD, EU 2024/3019) recognizes first time TOC (Total Organic Carbon) as an equal parameter to COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) for determining water pollution. This gives governments the chance to adopt TOC, an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to the hazardous COD determination. In our Expert Talk, we speak with Hans Wieten, Laboratory Manager at Smurfit Westrock Parenco in the Netherlands, who is leading the transition from COD to TOC. With over 30 years of experience in environmental analysis, Hans shares practical steps, challenges, and benefits of this change. The Netherlands is already phasing out COD, placing Hans at the forefront of this European shift. Join us for this online event to hear his expert opinion on advantages and disadvantages, and take part in an interactive Q&A session.
