Speaker: Oliver Buettel (Lab & Applications Manager)

Environmental monitoring is crucial to preserve our environment for the well-being of our current and future generations. This includes the analysis of samples like water and soil for contaminants to assess their quality and direct remedial actions. Monitoring industrial sites for harmful emissions to the atmosphere, surrounding soil, and wastewater is as important as drinking water and domestic wastewater analysis as part of environmental protection.

A wide range of analytical parameters are regulated by authorities like the US EPA, and therefore commonly analyzed. These parameters include toxic metals like Lead, Cadmium, or Mercury, but also sum parameters like Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and organic halides (AOX/TOX). Anions like nitrate or phosphate primarily play a role in drinking and wastewater analysis.

A comprehensive portfolio of analytical technologies for these different parameters will be discussed with regard to challenges and their solutions in routine environmental analysis, and application examples will be presented to highlight advantages in sample throughput, detection sensitivity, and operating cost.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understand different methods for environmental analysis
  • Learn how to choose the right technique for specific applications
  • Understand analytical performance criteria for successful environmental analysis

Who Should Attend:

  • Professionals in the Environmental Analysis sector
  • Lab managers and analysts in environmental laboratories
  • Professionals involved in environmental regulation
