AJ Instruments India Pvt Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Analytik Jena in India, headquartered in New Delhi with other locations in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Chennai. The company was founded in November 2014 and now has a staff of 27, who are involved in both analytical measurement technology and life sciences. The company engages in business in India as well as Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

India has taken up the fight against pollution with the government’s "Clean India" campaign. Analytik Jena equipment is now in place to ensure that enhanced fuel production standards are being met.

"Many things had to fall into place for this to be a success," explained Upendra Dixit, Managing Director of the Indian branch. Analytik Jena has now supplied the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) with 37 compEAct-Systems. This was not only a success in terms of sales but enhanced Analytik Jena’s status as a major market supplier.

The Indian government has in fact recently pulled the emergency brake on environmental issues, with a national initiative to introduce the Euro VI European emission standard for motor vehicles in the country. The sulfur content of fuels may no longer exceed 10 ppm, and strict limits also apply to nitrogen oxides. IndianOil has now purchased compEAct elemental analyzers from Analytik Jena in order to reliably ensure compliance at all of its locations. Upendra Dixit has high praise for all those involved: "We collaborated across continents and functions in the process. Not only did our sales, support and administration teams play a great team role in the success, but our production and sales administration teams in Jena were able to get things moving quickly to make sure we met our delivery deadlines." Since IndianOil runs over 60 labs across the country, there is still much business potential there. As Upendra Dixit put it: "The visibility and credibility we achieved with this project cannot be overemphasized. That was a breakthrough for us."

Upendra Dixit, Managing Director

A team for all seasons ... "We had a lot of fires burning,"

recalled Upendra Dixit, reflecting on the difficult situation that he faced when AJ Instruments India Pvt Ltd. was founded in 2014. While Analytik Jena had previously sold equipment there via dealers for over 15 years, the after-sales service left much to be desired, which in turn blemished the company’s reputation in the country. "People said that our equipment was good, even superior, but if something went wrong – God help you. We’re therefore all the more pleased today that we were able to reach a record TRI*M index satisfaction score of 84 and 87 in the 2018 external customer survey. That was a great validation of our work." The journey included the formation of a cross-functional team and reliable support all throughout the subcontinent – with new specialists who were up to their tasks as part of the mission to establish operations centered on expertise and quality.

"It’s easier to find quantity than quality in India," as Upendra Dixit expressed it. "We have therefore focused on directly approaching experienced specialists to join our staff, and our rising reputation means we receive an increasing number of high-quality applications." Customers can travel to the application center in Delhi, which was established in 2016, to see firsthand which systems are best suited to their needs. "We are well equipped and the staff all pull together as a team – not just when we succeed but also when we’re faced with difficulties, which goes with the territory. And we have every reason to be proud," added Upendra Dixit, Managing Director for Analytik Jena in India.

In my element

Upendra Dixit

Managing Director, AJ Instruments India Pvt Ltd., Delhi

Workwise, I’m in my element …
… when I stop to consider what this team of professionals has managed to build up from scratch and the business challenges we’ve risen to. We win some, we lose some, that’s life. What it takes to consistently win is to work things out together in a diffi cult situation and not to apportion blame when the going gets tough.

Privately, I’m in my element …
… when I can relax with Indian classical music. I’m an amateur vocalist, having studied Indian classical music.

For the anniversary …
… I’d bring food, since I also try to cook on occasion, and I’d sing a traditional Indian song.
